Easter Joy Thanks to Kind-hearted Kirkums
Kind-hearted Michael Kirkum’s Easter Egg appeal resulted in a donation of 800 eggs for children at University Hospital Crosshouse, just months after he was recognised in the UK Parliament for his outstanding generosity.
The appeal marks his 13th Easter drive alongside his son, Michael Kirkum Jr, who donated £400 to Crosshouse Children’s Fund, the charity for Ayrshire’s babies and children in hospital. This donation was supported by Darren Clark and CJ Lang and Son.
The Easter Egg appeal is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Ayrshire community and businesses that support his efforts year on year.
Kirkum Sr said: “I am deeply humbled by the response the Easter appeal receives each year, for without the donations, this would not be possible. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible.”
Hospital Play Specialist Michelle Dodds said: “We are so grateful to Michael and the local businesses who donate, and bring joy to patients staying with us over Easter each year.
“Having to stay in hospital is never easy, it can be especially hard for children over the holiday period. They have helped their time with us in hospital a little brighter. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity.”
Rebekah McGinn, Crosshouse Children’s Fund, added: “Once again, the Kirkums have shown their incredible generosity with this special Easter gift for children in hospital.
“Thank you so much to them and the businesses across Ayrshire who supported this monumental effort.”
Kirkum, from Kilwinning, recently completed a Christmas toy drive that delivered his 20,000th gift. He was recognised for his kindness by the office of the Prime Minister, receiving a ‘Points of Light’ award and letter.
A motion tabled in the UK Parliament by Patricia Gibson, MP for North Ayrshire and Arran, later informed the House about Kirkum’s many holiday appeals, describing Kirkum as an ‘outstanding volunteer’ and commending his ‘inspiring commitment to improving the lives of children in his community in Kilwinning and across Ayrshire.’
