Faster, Smarter Growth Analysis with BoneXpert
Crosshouse Children’s Fund is pleased to announce the successful implementation of BoneXpert software at University Hospital Crosshouse. This new software streamlines the process of analysing x-rays, providing faster and more accurate insights into children’s bone health.
Traditionally, assessing a child’s growth through bone growth analysis required a manual process, which involved detailed measurements and evaluations of X-rays, often taking weeks to complete. This waiting period could be stressful for families seeking answers about their child’s development.
Dr. Scott Williamson, a consultant paediatrician at University Hospital Crosshouse, explains the critical role of bone age in diagnosing growth issues.
"We use BoneXpert to analyse X-rays, specifically looking at the X-ray of a child’s hand to determine their 'bone age'. Bone age tells us how old we would expect the child to be based on their skeletal development rather than their actual age."
This comparison between a child’s bone age and their chronological age can reveal crucial information about their growth patterns. If there’s a significant difference between the two, it may indicate a range of underlying conditions, such as growth disorders, hormonal imbalances, or nutritional deficiencies. These insights are key to diagnosing conditions early and starting treatment promptly.
Before BoneXpert, the manual process of assessing bone age was time-consuming. Now, with the click of a button, BoneXpert can analyse X-rays in seconds, delivering precise results, almost instantly.
"Using this software saves a lot of time and effort. We can now complete the analysis immediately after the X-ray, getting results back to families much quicker. This advancement in medical technology is already making a big difference. Many thanks to Crosshouse Children's Fund, and all the donors for helping us purchase this software."
