Kyle's Teddy Therapy

TeddyHospitalCrosshouse Children’s Fund funds a portable Teddy Hospital, an initiative designed to assist young patients in navigating medical procedures through the power of play. This approach helps children manage the anxiety and stress associated with hospital visits.

Kyle, a long-term patient who had developed significant fears related to medical procedures is one of the children who has benefitted from Teddy Therapy. Kyle was particuarly apprehensive about masks and ambulances, which made the prospect of his upcoming surgery in Glasgow very daunting.

Understanding the importance of addressing Kyle’s anxieties, Crosshouse Play Specialist Michelle utilised the Teddy Hospital to provide him with the support he needed. The Teddy Hospital allows children to engage in role-play with teddies and medical props, which can help to demystify medical equipment and procedures, reducing fear and building confidence.

For Kyle, the play therapy offered by the Teddy Hospital was instrumental in preparing him for his surgery.

“Play therapy provided by the Teddy Hospital was a huge part of preparing Kyle for his surgery in Glasgow, it was able to help him overcome some big fears.”
